Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron deputies with the Sheriff’s Office has charged and arrested another Wayne County resident on drug trafficking charges.

Deputies Joe Horn and Derek Dennis met a vehicle on Stokes Street that did not have a front windshield. The deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Hill Rise Drive. Once the vehicle stopped the driver changed his position inside the vehicle with a passenger. When the deputies approached the vehicle, they noticed a baggie of marijuana hanging out of the original passenger’s hoodies pocket that he was wearing. This led the deputies to search the vehicle. Upon the search deputies located and seized 17 baggies of marijuana approximately weighting 11 ounces, a small baggie of methamphetamine, 2 tablets of a controlled substance, $110.00 in cash and numerous new plastic baggies consistent with drug trafficking.

Deputy Derek Dennis charged and arrested Eric W. McGuire of Monticello, Ky. with trafficking in marijuana (8 ounces to less than 5 pounds), trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (less than 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (drug unspecified) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputy Dennis also charged passenger Timothy Scarborough of Monticello, Ky. with possession of marijuana.

McGuire was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
