According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office have arrested another Wayne County man for drug trafficking. This arrest is part of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office continued investigations into the illegal sales of narcotic and related activities in Wayne County.
Deputy Derek Dennis arrested Angel G. Benitez of Monticello, Ky. back on Friday, November 22, 2019 on several charges including drug possession and tampering with physical evidence after a traffic stop on Kentucky Highway 90. At the time of Benítez’s arrest he was taken to the Wayne County Hospital’s Emergency Room by deputies after it appeared, he had ingested some type of a narcotic during his arrest. He was treated and released from the hospital then placed in the Wayne County Detention Center on that date.
The continued investigation led Deputies Dennis, Brent Rose and Jerry Coffey back to the Hospital’s Emergency Room on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 to conduct a search of the examination room where Benitez had been treated. In the room Deputies located a white bag on top of a cabinet which containing approximately 33 and ½ grams of methamphetamine. The bag appeared to have been placed into a body cavity at some point and time.
Deputy Dennis then charged and arrested Benitez for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (grater than 2 grams of methamphetamine). Benitez remained in the Wayne County Detention Center.
