Lexington announces preparations for coronavirus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The city of Lexington announced that they are taking steps to prepare in case of coronavirus spreads.

Mayor Linda Gorton today pulled together a meeting at City Hall to ensure that Lexington is prepared just in case.

“We’re planning, not panicking; acting, not overreacting,” Gorton said. “We’re making sure we’ve done everything possible to prepare our City … that our essential services can function well in this kind of emergency, if needed. As a nurse I learned long ago that preparation is the key to handling a situation like this.”

The city will be advised by the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department concerning public health decisions.

There are currently no reports of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in Kentucky.
