Drug Trafficking and Other Arrests

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron his office has made another drug trafficking arrest after a traffic stop on Kentucky Highway 90 Bypass.

Deputies Derek Dennis and James Barnett conducted the traffic stop for a traffic violation at approximately 10 pm. The Deputies were watching the vehicle after receiving information earlier in the day about the vehicle transporting methamphetamine. Deputy Dennis deployed Deputy K-9 Unit Lyon for a free air sniff around the vehicle. Deputy Lyon alerted on two areas of the vehicle. Upon search of the vehicle a syringe was located in the rear seat area. The Deputies detained the female driver and then transported her to the Wayne County Detention Center to conduct a search of her person by a female Deputy Jailer. Upon arrival at the Detention Center Deputy Dennis noticed what appeared to be the detainee hiding something in his vehicle. Video surveillance at the Detention Center showed the detainee hiding something inside the deputy’s cruiser and then dropping a glass pipe wrapped in a cloth while she was being walked inside. Located inside the cruiser was approximately thirty-five grams of methamphetamine, two Sublingual tablets, a Suboxone film, and a large amount of new plastic baggies used for drug trafficking.

Deputy Dennis charged and arrested Dawn Lair of Monticello, Ky. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than 2 grams of methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance-2nd degree (less than 20 drug unspecified scheduled 3), possession of drug paraphernalia and for the traffic violation.

Lair was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

The investigation is continuing by the Wayne County Sheriff Office.

Carrender of Monticello, Ky. was arrested on 2 Wayne County Circuit Court Warrants of Arrest for failure to comply with Drug Court on the underlying charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (less than 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and for non-payment of court costs, fees or fines.

Ashley B. McClure of Corbin, Ky. was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to pay support as ordered.

Carrender and McClure were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
