For over three decades I have diligently submitted the text for a column that appeared in the Wayne County OUTLOOK. That simple effort turned out to be one of my greatest blessings. It provided a platform for me to express my views, thoughts, and observations on a great variety of subjects. I “mused” on subjects of religion, politics, social issues, personal stories, and stories of many of the people and places of Wayne County.
As you are aware, the Wayne County OUTLOOK ceased publication after one hundred and sixteen years of faithfully serving the people of our community. Indeed, it has created an empty place in our lives. It has also taken from me the privilege I’ve had to be a columnist for the publication.
When the announcement was made that the Wayne County OUTLOOK would no longer be published, we were all reminded that things change!
And, when things change; it usually means that we must change.
Today, I’m announcing a change that I’ve made.
I am happy to report that another opportunity has presented itself for me to continue expressing my views, thoughts, and observations on a great variety of subjects!
One of our communities’ successful radio stations has extended to me an invitation to continue my efforts using their powerful resource.
The staff and management of WMKZ has come forward to fill the void left when the Wayne County OUTLOOK ceased publication. The have developed a public service effort to make sure the citizens of Wayne County continue to have access to the news of our world, nation, state, and community. They call it THE Z93 DAILY NEWS—a free, local, E-newsletter. This service will be a great way for you to receive a daily recap of local news, sports, obituaries, and weather.
To subscribe to THE Z93 DAILY NEWS all you have to do is go to their website at z93country.com. Complete the simple sign up process and you will begin receiving a weekly e-mail edition of the publication which will now carry my column.
Let me use this announcement to stress the importance of the resources that are available to us to practice one of the most precious freedoms we have in America—free speech!
I use the word “precious” because that is indicative of the value I personally place on the freedom we have to be able to express ourselves.
Since 1791, the law of the land has been: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
It is true that attempts have been made and are presently being made to abolish this freedom from the fabric of our Nation. A casual observation of present trends in our society and our government make it very apparent that there are those who would rob us of this freedom.
That is one of the reasons I admire and support the efforts of the free and responsible media resources in our community. That is why I consider it a distinct privilege to be allowed to speak freely using THE Z93 DAILY NEWS.
Through the years I have been able to develop a “following” of multitudes of people who have been so gracious to give me a “hearing.” I appreciate the favorable comments that have been made and have had my share of unfavorable comments. Both kinds of comments have caused me to grow, become more tolerant, and knowledgeable.
I want to ask that you share this announcement and encourage your friends and family members to get on line and subscribe to THE Z93 DAILY NEWS. Being an E-newsletter (Electronic Newsletter) will allow the entire world to access the news of Wayne County. Those who have moved away from “home” will be able to have a daily reminder of an electronic “news from home.”
It’s time you change how you get your news and remain in contact with what’s happening in Wayne County. It’s easy! It won’t cost you a thin dime, and you’ll be informed.
