According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Monticello man has been arrested on multiple charges after threatening Deputies with a knife.
On November 19, 2023, at approximately 7:38 pm, Deputy Derek Dennis conducted a vehicle traffic stop for traffic violations in the Cumberland Crossing Shopping Center. A passenger in the vehicle was known to Deputy Dennis as having two active arrest warrants out of Wayne County. When Deputy Dennis told the passenger he was under arrest for those warrants and to exit the vehicle the subject stepped out then sat back down in the passenger’s seat and stated he was not going. As Deputy Dennis started to physically remove the subject from the vehicle, he then started screaming, I got a knife. Deputy Dennis then called for backup with Deputies Allen Cash, Jerry Meadows and Monticello Police Officer John Hurd responding. The man was told to drop his knife multiple times as he was being held at gun point as he was saying “you all will have to kill me”. The subject then jumped back inside the vehicle locking the passenger side door. The man then exited the vehicle through the driver’s side door where he confronted Officer John Hurd. While continuing resisting arrest Deputy Allen Cash deployed his taser causing the man to fall to the ground. At that point he was placed in handcuffs while still trying to resist. A pocketknife was found where the subject was standing on the driver’s side of the vehicle where he was tasted.
Deputy Dennis charged and arrested Cory Bard of Monticello, KY. for resisting arrest, menacing, 4 counts of wanton endangerment-1st degree (Police Officer), assault-3rd degree (Police or Probation Officer), and disorderly conduct-2nd degree. Bard was also arrested on the two Wayne County District Court Warrants of Arrest for failure to appear for a Preliminary Hearing and failure to pay or show cause on the underlying charges of public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol), criminal mischief-3rd degree, assault-3rd degree (Police or Probation Officer), resisting arrest, menacing, and non-payment of court costs, fees, or fines.
Bard was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
