According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a continued investigations into the illegal sales and use of narcotics here in Wayne County has resulted in a Monticello man being arrested for drug trafficking and another man for drug possession.
On November 17, 2023, Deputy James Barnett continued investigation led him to observe for a vehicle that he believed would be transporting methamphetamine from Pulaski County into Wayne County. Deputy Barnett then started observing for the suspect’s vehicle on East Kentucky Highway 90. At approximately 6:58 pm Deputy Barnett observed his target vehicle which made a traffic violation once Deputy Barnett started following that vehicle. The driver was also known to Deputy Barnett as the suspect he was observing for in his drug investigation. Deputy Barnett then conducted a vehicle traffic stop to address the traffic violation and his drug investigation. Once Deputy Barnett approached the driver’s side window and making contact with the driver, he observed the driver trying to place something under his seat. The driver was told to exit his vehicle and when doing so he handed Deputy Barnett two baggies containing a crystal substance that has believed to be methamphetamine. Deputy Barnett then arrested and charged Michael Gehring of Monticello, KY. for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine) and for the traffic violation.
The other illegal narcotic investigation conducted by Deputy James Barnett led him to obtain a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for Kalep Pittman of Monticello, KY. The complaint warrant charged Pittman with possession of a controlled substance-1st degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. On November 17, 2023, Deputy Barnett arrested Pittman on the complaint warrant on Willa Drive in Monticello.
Gehring and Pittman were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
The crystal substance tested positive as methamphetamine using the Tr-Narc Narcotic Analysis Equipment at the Wayne County Sheriff Office with a total weight of 6.17 grams.
Barnetts investigation is continuing.

Sarah Lynch of Mo0nticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Commitment Order of Arrest for Contempt of Court for failure to comply with Drug Court.
Kenneth Myers was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for Probation Violation on the underlying charge of possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine).
Lynch and Myers were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Summer R. Smith of Monticello, KY. was arrested for public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol), resisting arrest, disorderly conduct-2nd degree, assault-3rd degree (Police or Probation Officer), and possession of marijuana. Smith was also arrested on 2 Pulaski County District Court Warrants of Arrest for failure to pay on the underlying charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition-shoplifting, and possession of marijuana.
Marty McGuire of Monticello, KY. was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, and a traffic violation.
Smith and McGuire were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
