WC Schools See an increase in Chronic Absenteeism

Chronic absenteeism is defined as being absent 10% or more of the school days, regardless of excuse. To be chronically absent in Wayne County, a student must miss 17 or more days.
A student who misses 2 days per month over the course of a school year will be chronically absent.
Since COVID, chronically absent students have risen in number nationwide, and this also affects Wayne County. Missing more than 10% of the school year creates learning barriers for students, and because we never want to see students have barriers to success, we are launching this campaign to build awareness.
