At approximately 6:45 a.m. Sunday (March 19) Officer Alex Jones conducted a traffic stop just off KY 1275 North in Cumberland Crossing after observing a Chevrolet S-10 disregard a stop sign and fail to signal for a right turn. The truck was being operated by Ronnie Weddle, 64, of Liberty.
Officer Jones’ preliminary investigation revealed Weddle’s operator’s license had expired and he could not produce valid proof of insurance. During the initial conversation with Weddle, Officer Jones asked for and was given consent to search the truck.
During this part of the investigation, Officer Jones and Lt. Josh Asberry discovered just over four grams of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, digital scales, numerous small zip-loc baggies commonly used in illegal drug trafficking, two firearms, and $484 cash, including one counterfeit $20 bill.
Weddle was arrested and charged with Operating on an Expired License, Failure to Produce an Insurance Card, Disregarding a Stop Sign, Failure to Signal for Turn, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (methamphetamine), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Forgery 3rd Degree and Possession of Marijuana.
Weddle was processed and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
