According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron, a Wayne County man has been arrested by the Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges including attempted murder of his wife.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to several calls of domestic violence abuse between a husband and his wife at a residence on Kelsey Road over several days which was called into the Wayne County 911 Dispatch by other family members. Each time the victim stated that she had not been physically abused just verbally. No injuries were observed in those responses. On September 27, 2022, Sheriff Catron and Deputies Valis Smedley and Cody Neal responded twice to the residence. Each time the suspect had fled the scene. On the second response, multiple injuries were observed on the victim including marks on her body including her neck area. The victim stated her husband had beat on her and choked her until she passed out. During these encounters, a 3-year-old child was present in the residence and received a small bruise on its back when the suspect had thrown a baby bottle hitting the child. Sheriff Catron, Deputies Smedley, and Neal were unable to locate the suspect at that time.
Deputy Smedley filed for and received a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for Thurman E. Barnes of Monticello, Ky. On September 29, 2022, Barnes appeared for a child custody case hearing in the Wayne County Family Court. Wayne County Court Security Deputy Jack Denney arrested Barnes on the Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for assault-4th degree (domestic violence), unlawful imprisonment-1st degree, strangulation-1st degree, and attempted murder (domestic violence).
Barnes was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $50,000.00 full cash bond.
