Local Population Expected to Decline

A new report by the Kentucky State Data Center projects Wayne County’s population to slowly decline over the next several years.

The data center released a report last week detailing population projections for each of Kentucky’s 120 counties from present to the year 2050.

The projections utilize data such as migration changes, life expectancy, fertility rates, historic patterns, and multiple other factors.

Between 2010 and 2020, Wayne County showed a net loss of 613 individuals.

That data has helped lead researchers to believe Wayne County will reach a population of 19,790  in the year 2025 before slowly declining and falling back to 18,578 mark by the year 2035 and 17,800 by the year 2040.
