The Local Water system is pumping Close to Capacity

Water usage is up as the Utility Commission Reports pumping close to its current capacity level over the holiday weekend.
System Manager, Scott Upchurch tells us the weekend saw 3.6, 3.8, and 4.0 million gallons of water used through the local water system. The current capacity for Monticello is 5 million gallons per day. The month of June saw an average usage of 3.94 million gallons with 4.3 million reported as the month’s highest one-day usage.
Factors attributed to the increase in usage include the hot weather, abnormally dry weather, and the usual increase in summer usage. He also feels the population using the water system is growing as there has been a 5% increase in total customers over the past several months.
No need for concern just yet, Upchurch says the state will contact the local system if there needs to be a rise in capacity.
