Wayne County’s Fiscal Court met Thursday night for their regular monthly session. A visitor addressed the court requesting the magistrates and judge draft a resolution to State Represenative, Ken Upchurch asking that a bridge on West Highway 90 receive a new name. It was noted a public meeting for veterans to speak on the issue will be held on June 2nd at the Aspire Center from 10 am til noon.
The court approved a pricing scale increase of 5% for the WC Detention Center, approved an agreement with Deputy Valis Smedley to be the handler for K-9 Unit Zander, and the court approved the appointment of David Worley and Jacob Keeton to 4-year terms.
The Fire Department report included 47 incidents responded to for the month of April, 20 in the city and 27 in the county with a total of 2 structure fires.
Numbers at the local jail have returned to pre covid numbers, 174 county inmates and 83 state.
The solid waste report showed approximately 25,000 tires were collected at the recent tire disposale event at the state garage.
1st quarter alcohol sales in the county totaled $61,164 with $3,025 in taxes collected.
The June meeting of the court was moved to Tuesday, June 14th.
