Wayne County Fiscal Court met in a special session today (Friday) and approved the purchase of two pieces of equipment for the road department. Magistrates approved the purchase of a hot box from Crafco at a cost of $14,800. That was the lowest of three bids received for the equipment. The court also approved the purchase of a saltbox for the road department. The saltbox will cost $649.
During the meeting, the court agreed to continue to move forward with the opioid litigation. Magistrates had agreed to join the legal action during a meeting held in August. The pending litigation was filed against drug companies that are considered contributors to the state’s opioid drug crisis. County Judge-Executive Mike Anderson recommended that the court continue to move forward with the litigation. More signatures were required at the local level, and Anderson said the suit was officially filed today in U.S. District Court.
In other action during the meeting, the court approved hiring Cody Vaughn as a road department employee. He will begin next week.
