Missing Service Dog Located Safe

(WTVQ) – An emotional support animal that was stolen from the home of a young girl with medical issues who relies on the puppy for support, was found safe Thursday afternoon, according to the owners. Amy Gregory says a man knocked on their door Thursday morning saying he thought he had spotted the Chihuahua-Dachshund mix, known as a Chiweenie, nearby. After an exhaustive four-hour search, the one-year-old puppy was found along a nearby road.

Gregory says ‘Oakley’ was hungry, scared, and a little scraped up but otherwise seemed to be okay. She says they’ll have the puppy checked out by a veterinarian.

She says when the puppy was stolen on Tuesday, it was like losing a member of the family, especially to her 18-year old daughter who needs the support animal on a daily basis.

Gregory says it’s a Christmas miracle come early. She thanked the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, friends, neighbors, the media, and total strangers who helped search for the stolen puppy this week.
