Gabe Heatherly Sworn in as New Fire Chief

The Monticello City Council Approved Mayor Tracie Sexton’s recommendation of Gabe Heatherly to become the new fire chief at last night’s city council meeting. Heather was one of two individuals interviewed for the position. The council expressed their appreciation to Justin Atkinson who served as Interim Fire Chief for the city during the illness and recent death of Steve Ferrell.

Gabe Heatherly, an Alabama native, began his career in the fire service as a volunteer in 1999. Gabe relocated to Wayne County in 2002 with Cobb-Vantress and began volunteering for Monticello Fire Department. During his tenure with Monticello, he was promoted to Lieutenant and then to Captain/Training Officer for the department.

Gabe has been married to his wife, Allison (Shearer) Heatherly, for 18 years. The couple has three daughters; Adeline (14), Abigail (13), and Anabell (7). They are a Wayne County farm family that raises poultry for Cobb-Vantress. Their daughters are active in Wayne County schools and sports. Gabe leads the music worship for Mill Springs Christian Church.

Gabe spent 9 years with the City of Danville Fire Department as a full-time fireman and was promoted to Lieutenant and then to Battalion Chief.

Gabe has obtained numerous certifications from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), Pro-Board Accreditation, and state/national entities Including Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Technician, Incident Commander, and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.

Gabe has worked in the fire service for 22 years. He is passionate about service to others and working in the community. He is honored and humbled to have to opportunity to lead the fire department.
