As the Harvest season winds down our Wayne County Agent for Agriculture, Glen Roberts reports things went pretty good for local producers this year.
Above-average yields were noted with both soybeans and corn. A big positive is that both are at a good price with some of the top prices ever are being reported for corn. The only negatives were higher prices for fertilize this year and equipment costs rose.
The forage crop varied from community to community with much of that due to area rains. The hay crop was reported at average to good for the season.
The armyworm which made state headlines in the late summer was found in Wayne County. Mr. Roberts reports the worm was discovered in only a few fields in the area and was not as widespread as western and central Kentucky reported. The lush green fields seemed more susceptible to the worm, the biggest percentage of local fields were not affected.
