Join us for Introduction to Investing presented by University of Kentucky Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. This FREE two-part series requires no prior investment background or experience. Dr. Nichole Huff, Extension Specialist for Family Finance and Resource Management, will host the series, and Dr. Woodrow Johnson, Senior Financial Economist with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will be our featured guest providing an overview of investing in American financial markets.
Part 1 – Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 7:30pmET (6:30pmCT) will cover key decisions households need to make before investing, as well as prudent investment considerations such as market efficiency, compound interest, and investment fees. Dr. Johnson will discuss ways to avoid fraud when investing.
Part 2 – Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 7:30pmET (6:30pmCT) will expand on ideas from Part 1 and discuss a handful of intermediate investment concepts in more detail, including risk, diversification, and portfolio theory. Dr. Johnson will also discuss the mission of the SEC and the role it plays in financial markets.
