Wayne County High School sophomores from the agriculture class (l-r:) Chloe Frost and Hannah Kempton helped gather Blanco pumpkins to give to the elementary students in preschool-fifth grade at Wayne County Schools.
Wayne County High School Agriculture students and Extension Service representatives worked together in the patch to make sure every elementary student received a pumpkin. Earlier this school year, the Agriculture students harvested and cleaned close to 9,400 ears of fresh corn from the school garden that have been included in school lunches.

County Extension Agriculture Agent Glen Roberts handed out pumpkins from the wagon that the high school agriculture students had loaded up to distribute to each elementary school on campus. Kyle Jones got a Blanco pumpkin.

Monticello-Wayne County Memorial Park
The Wayne County FFA/VoAg and the Wayne County Extension Service have partnered to grow and distribute a small pumpkin for all Wayne County students (Preschool through 5th grade).
Pumpkins are to be decorated as a favorite book character.
Pumpkins should be brought to Monticello-Wayne County Memorial Park large shelter house Friday, October 1, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. or Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Judging will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Prizes will be awarded as soon as the judges can tabulate scores.
Prize money will be awarded for each grade Preschool – 5th grade.

2nd Place $15
3rd Place $10
Prize money will also be awarded for an overall grand prize.

Prize money is provided by the Wayne County Farm Bureau Federation.
Pumpkins will be on display at the Monticello-Wayne County Memorial Park large shelter house until 4:00 p.m. on October 2, 2021. At that time students can retrieve their pumpkins and take them home. Any pumpkins not picked up will be taken to the Wayne County Extension Office where they can be picked up on Monday, October 4, 2021.
