Local Community Mourns the Passing of Chief Ferrell

Local leaders and the Community are mourning the passing of Fire Chief Steve Ferrell whose long battle with cancer came to an end on Wednesday.

Jerry Steve Ferrell the City of Monticello for a total of forty-four years, seventeen years as a volunteer firefighter, and twenty-seven years as the city’s Fire Chief, where he was held in high regard by all members of the fire department, and all who worked with him.

A statement from Monticello Mayor Tracie Sexton reads:

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Chief Ferrell.  In recognition of his service, I am asking all city and county entities to lower their flags to half-staff from now until sundown on the day he is laid to rest.”
