The Wayne County Board of Education met last night (Tuesday) and approved the tax rate for 2019-2020. The board approved the compensating rate which is two-tenths of a cent lower than last year. The rate for real property was set at 49.2 cents per hundred dollars assessed value, and the rate for personal property was set at 49.5 cents per hundred dollars assessed value. Also during the meeting, the board approved the work budget for the current year. This budget includes the latest SEEK funding projects. It totals approximately $32 million in all funds. During the meeting, the board approved the design development for the District Services Building, which will be located in the building currently occupied by the Area Career and Technology Center. That project will begin soon after students move into the new tech center.
