Burglary Leads to Arrest

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron on Tuesday morning August 13, 2019 at 2:30 am Deputy Brad Tucker with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress complaint at a residence in Zollicoffer Estates.

Upon his arrival the Deputy Tucker learned that the intruder had not made entrance into the residence and had already left the scene. Deputy Tucker obtain information from the resident as to who the intruder was and what they were driving.

Deputy Tucker then located the involved vehicle on Kentucky highway 90 and initiated a traffic stop. As Deputy Tucker was interviewing the driver, he received a call of another burglary in progress at the same residence. Due to the nature of the call Deputy Tucker released the driver and returned to the residence to learn that this incident involved two suspects.

Again, the suspects had left the scene prior to his arrival. Deputy Tucker again took the information from the resident and then attempted to located the vehicles and the suspects from both calls. Later a third call was received of another burglary in progress at the same residence. Deputy Tucker responded and again learned the suspect had left the scene prior to his arrival.

Deputy Tucker investigation revealed that this call involved a different individual and vehicle. Again, Deputy Tucker attempted to locate all those involved.

At approximately 6 am Deputy Tucker received a call of an individual at the Wayne County Hospital stating his car had been taken by force. While in route to the hospital Deputy Tucker observed the vehicle on North Main Street. This vehicle and driver were the same as the original call of a burglary in progress at Zollicoffer Estates.

Deputy Tucker then arrested Sherman Sexton of Monticello, Ky. and charged him with robbery-2nd degree, false imprisonment-2nd degree and for driving on a driving under the influence suspended operator’s license. The investigation is continuing by Deputy Tucker and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office with more criminal charges and arrest expected in the future.

Sexton was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
